Former County Legislators and Community Appointee Sentenced in New Cassel Corruption Case

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced the sentencing of two former Nassau County legislators and the former executive director of the Town of North Hempstead Community Development Agency for conspiring to put portions of the New Cassel community up for sale for their own financial gain. Neville Mullings, 73, of Westbury, was sentenced today to nine months in jail by Nassau County Court Judge Alan Honorof. Mullings was convicted in a five month trial by a Nassau jury of two counts of Conspiracy in the 4th Degree (an E felony) and two counts of Official Misconduct (an A misdemeanor). Roger Corbin, 68, of Westbury, was sentenced today to two to six years in prison by Judge Honorof. Corbin was convicted by the jury of one count of Public Servant Receiving a Bribe in the 2nd Degree (a C felony) and one count of Official Misconduct. Patrick Williams, 66, of Uniondale, was sentenced today to one year in jail by Judge Honorof. Williams was convicted by the jury of two counts of Conspiracy in the 4th Degree. The defendants are scheduled to surrender to authorities on the morning of Oct. 2. “These men were entrusted by the community to transform this property into a development that everyone in New Cassel could be proud of,” DA Rice said. “Instead, they put their personal interests before the community to line their own pockets. Today, 10 years after the first request for proposals for this project was released, this parcel still has not been fully developed due to the selfish actions of these defendants.” Assistant District Attorney Jason Herman of DA Rice’s Public Corruption Bureau and Laurie Gibbons of DA Rice’s Appeals Bureau are prosecuting the case. Mullings is represented by Frederick Brewington, Esq.; Corbin is represented by Kenneth St. Bernard; Williams is represented by Michael Rosen, Esq.
