Hempstead Man Sentenced to 25 Years to Life for September 2011 Murder

Michael Gibson

Michael Gibson, 35, shot another man outside night club MINEOLA, N.Y. – Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Hempstead man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the fatal shooting of another man in September 2011. A Nassau County jury found Michael Gibson, 35, of Hempstead, guilty on June 3 of all counts from his 2012 indictment, including Murder in the 2nd Degree (an A-1 violent felony) and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (a C violent felony). Acting Supreme Court Justice Jerald Carter sentenced Gibson to 25 years to life in prison today. “Michael Gibson shot his victim in cold blood and then ran from the law for three months,” Acting DA Singas said. “Thanks to the hard work of the Nassau County Police Department, New York State Parole Officers, and our prosecutors, he was tracked down in North Carolina and will now spend the rest of his life paying for his crime.” Acting DA Singas said that on September 3, 2011 at approximately 3 a.m., a group of young men were engaged in a fight outside of Seduccion night club located at 306b Main Street in Hempstead. Gibson arrived by car in the vicinity of the club, circled the block and observed his friends engaged in the fight near the intersection of Main Street and Sammis Place. He parked down the block and ran out of the car towards the fight, and raised and fired one time at the group, striking the victim in the neck. Gibson fled the scene immediately. The victim was pronounced dead almost immediately at Winthrop-University Hospital. Gibson was tracked down by the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad and arrested by New York State parole officers in North Carolina in December of 2011. Assistant District Attorneys Lauren Nickerson and Rachel Lasry of Acting DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau are prosecuting the case. Gibson is represented by Joe Lo Piccolo, Esq. and Darlene Goldberg, Esq.
