Uniondale Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter Charge in August 2012 Shooting Death

Agdnan McLeod, 25, was arrested in California after three hour standoff with police MINEOLA, N.Y. – Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Uniondale man pleaded guilty today for his role in the August 2012 shooting death of a Hempstead Village man. Agdnan McLeod, 25, of Uniondale, pleaded guilty before Acting Supreme Court Justice Jerald Carter to one count of Manslaughter in the 1st Degree (a B violent felony). The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office is recommending that McLeod be sentenced to 18 years in prison. The defendant remains in custody and is due back in court on October 19. “The victim was exiting a friend’s house when he was brutally murdered by the defendant,” Acting DA Singas said. “Thanks to the hard work of our law enforcement partners at the Nassau County Police Department and the Sacramento Police Department, and our prosecutors, the defendant will now pay for this senseless crime.” Acting DA Singas said that at approximately 8:05 p.m. on August 1, 2012, McLeod, who was in a black Jeep Wrangler, shot his 29-year-old victim on Lawson Street in Hempstead Village. The victim was struck in the chest and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m. McLeod fled the scene and was subsequently indicted by a Nassau County Grand Jury in January 2013. The defendant was discovered in September 2013 in California when an anonymous tipster led authorities to his location. Sacramento police found McLeod in a house and the defendant refused to come out for more than three hours. Dozens of police officers and SWAT team members surrounded the house and eventually McLeod surrendered peacefully. The defendant was extradited to Nassau County in October 2013. Assistant District Attorney Christine Geier of Acting DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. McLeod is represented by Bruce Barket, Esq.
